I received an email today with photos of a carving knife made by ABS Founder Bill Moran from Master Smith Jack Fuller. Jack Fuller was a bladesmithing student of Bill Moran and this week a friend of Bill Moran stopped by Jack's Maryland shop and had him sharpen a wood carving knife made by Bill Moran many years ago. The attached photos are the only ones that I have ever seen of a wood carving knife made by Bill Moran.

"Dan, I thought you might like this. It was a pleasant surprise for me. This shows you what a talented knife maker Bill Moran was. Bill made this knife as a retirement gift for a close friend of his. It is a carving knife. I have friends that are duck carvers and have never seen anything close to this. I honed it just a little and it is now razor sharp. I would love to know what kind of steel it is made of. It really feels good in your hand. Bill's ability to just create something is amazing and it is always so unique. I would have loved to have spent more time in the shop with him."

Very neat. I really like that and not something you normally see. Mr. Moran was very talented.

This is the follow-up to the beginning post in this thread about the Bill Moran Carving Knife that Master Smith Jack Fuller recently discovered when a long time friend of ABS Founder Bill Moran dropped by Jack's Maryland shop and showed the carving knife to him.

Master Smith Fuller drew out the Moran Carving Knife and then forged the blade and made the knife below for a friend, Charlie, that does duck carving. Charlie has carved a Christmas ornament for Jack's grandson for the past 4 years.
