I am saddened to tell you that Wayne Holter of Maryland who was the author of the book on ABS Founder Bill Moran entitled "Moran - Fire and Steel" has passed away. The obituary from the Frederick Post is posted below.

Wayne Vernon Holter, 75, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at his home.Born on November 3, 1936, in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late D. Vernon and Helen (Hoffman) Holter.Wayne graduated from Frederick High School in 1954 and went on to Western Maryland College, where he graduated in 1958. Wayne then graduated with his Masters of Education degree in 1964.He served his country with the U.S. Army in the 558th Signal Company, which was called to active duty in 1961 by President Kennedy during the Berlin Crisis.Wayne taught at Middletown and Brunswick High Schools before becoming an Administrator at Linganore, Walkersville, and Thomas Johnson Evening High School. After his retirement, he worked as a Realtor with McIntosh Realty in Frederick.He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, Maryland, where he was a former teacher of the Adult Discussion Group.
In 1983, Wayne authored the book "Moran Fire and Steel". He also wrote many articles about knives and guns, as they were his passion and hobby, and he spoke of them until he could no longer speak. He was a member of a custom knife-making group, The William F. Moran, Jr. Museum and Foundation, Inc., in Frederick, Maryland.Wayne's final big adventure was building a tree house for his grandchildren.
The Holter family extends special thanks to friends and relatives who supported Wayne through his illness, and especially to Hospice of Washington County.He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sarah (Ifert) Holter; one daughter, Julie Ann Selin and husband Timothy of Boonsboro; one son, Charles Vernon Holter of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; a daughter in law Mary Patricia Holter of Greencastle; and five grandchildren, Jacob, Chase, and Emma Holter, and Alyssa and Madison Selin.A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, 107 West Main Street, Middletown, Maryland. Rev. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the church cemetery.The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, as well as one hour prior to the funeral ceremony at the church.Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J.
