Anyone have any ideas on topics or featured segments they'd like to see next spring in "The Quillon" email newsletter? Brainstorm here...

Jaymes Stevens,

I think any articles talking to Neels Van Den Berg about how he approaches the problem would be awesome. If there is any other MS that make those daggers on a consistent / habitual basis would be incredible to hear from. I am no expert, but usually once I have drawn a drawing I immediately find myself asking: "Ok, now what?". You don't know what you don't know; and knowing which piece to start on, what extra tools you may need, what tools you can make or purchase can make things easier, etc. would really be a great perspective from someone in the ranks pursuing the MS and have no idea what we are in for.  Maybe something around the "How to evaluate the Quillon" or "How to approach the Quillon" or "The best way to evaluate the Quillon Process" would be great.

I am certain that MS Cashen is packed with all his responsibilities as well, but he did a great intro video available in the Member resources about his Quillon Board Knife.

“The Quillon Dagger – 2013 Board Knife of the Year” – YouTube video by Kevin Cashen, MS

Other Links there that could be part and parceled into the information are:

“Making a Guard for a Quillon Dagger – YouTube video” by Bill Moran, MS

“Tools for Silver Wire Inlay – ABS YouTube Video” by Joe Keeslar, MS

“The Art of Silver Wire Inlay” by Jay Henderickson, MS

“Making Daggers” Slide Show by Kevin Cashen, MS

“Making Daggers” by Don Fogg, MS

I know Neels has Quillon drawings, and some fluting jigs for sale on pops knife supply, so maybe just providing those as links for helpful tools to get started when you are well studied enough to attack the problem. Links to anyone's tools or purchasable information would be awesome too.

Again, I am sure this is something you most likely didn't need help with, but I wanted to help if I could.

Respectfully
Michael

Appreciate this, Michael. We're always looking for good instruction for bladesmiths to add to the newsletter, so I'll pass this on. Neels has had two articles in "The Quillon" so far, with one being the December 2024 issue, so he is a wealth of knowledge and is very willing to help write articles.
