Garland David Jackson passed away on February 21st, 2019 after a strong fought battle with cancer. Born on March 23rd, 1949 in Arkansas, David was a long- time California resident where he enjoyed the mountains and did more camping, fishing and hunting than most can do in a lifetime. David was a proud Vietnam Veteran; he served in the Army as a radioman and was part of the Special Forces Rangers and did a brief stint with an elite group called MAC SOG. David was an easy going, tell it like it is, guitar playin' and singing cowboy of sorts who made friends far and wide. Some of his closest friends were of the Tachi Yokut Native American group on the Santa Rosa Rancheria whom David traded knives with, went hunting with, and became like family to many. Although David struggled with being a war veteran, like many do, in his later years he became more at peace with his service in Vietnam; this was largely due to the recognition he would get from random strangers in restaurants, etc. (David often wore a Vietnam Veteran hat), but also due to his love and passion of knife making. David was a Journeyman ABS Knifemaker working towards becoming a Mastersmith. For many years he wanted to take his Mastersmith test, but was seeking perfection before giving it a try. David was completing the blades required for testing up until his illness forced him to set them aside. David's memory lives on through his son Randy Jackson and his wife Becky with their two children Keala and Bodhi, mother Annie Jackson, and sisters Carolyn Studebaker and Melanie Burke. Gone too soon, a life well lived and loved by many, David was a good man.
