Barry Ray Hughes, 59, passed away October 5, 2019, at a local hospital. He was born March 27, 1960, in Helena, Arkansas. Barry was a 1978 graduate of Texas High School in Texarkana. He also attended East Texas State University, Commerce, where he earned BS and MS degrees. He began his teaching career in 1982 and taught and coached at several northeast Texas schools, including James Bowie, Denison, Howe, Prosper, Redwater and Texas High. His baseball teams won a number of District and Bi-District titles during his career, which spanned more than thirty years. At the time of his death, he was teaching Biology and Environmental Science at Fouke High School.He was a member of the Cypress Basin Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist organization. Through that organization, he volunteered at Caddo Lake and Atlanta State Parks. He was a Christian.
Barry is survived by his wife,Caroline Corbin Hughes of Texarkana, Texas, two sons, Cody Barrett Hughes and his wife, Lora, of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Cale Bryant Hughes of Allen,Texas, one grandson, Barrett Reed Hughes, of Bentonville, another grandchild who will be born this week, and his parents Bill R. and Carolyn Hughes of Wake Village, Texas. He is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tod and Lee Ann Corbin, of Atlanta, Texas, a nephew, Jared Corbin of Carrollton, Texas and niece, Presley Angiel and her husband, Brian,of Boston, Massachusetts, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lee Ann Hughes, of Texarkana, Texas, in 2010.
The family will be at the Bill Hughes residence, 305 Phillips Circle, Wake Village, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, at Chapelwood Funeral Home at 1015 North Kings Highway in Nash, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2623 N. Robison Road, Texarkana, Texas following a private burial.
