Can one or many of you tell me where would be a good place to shop for a custom stamp, to mark my work. Over the years I have used a simple alphabet set of steel stamps, one letter at a time , stamped out HAP and the other side the date in roman numbers XVI =16.
Now wanting to look more professional I'd like a stamp that looks professional.
I'm new so my question my seem like a DAHHH question. After I earn my Journeyman title, am I permitted to stamp my work as such and add that to a business card?
Thank you in advance for any guidance .

feel free to send me a link at my email [email protected] or friend me on face book. If that is allowed. I'd hate to be breaking rules already.

This is who I used, good service, price and quality.
Hello Hap and welcome. Yes once you get your JS rating you can mark your blades as JS, and have it on your cards. A lot of makers are going to etching their mark instead of stamping. Check out Ernie Grospitch and his blue lightning stencils. You can do a search here on the forum for Ernie Grospitch.

I used stamps for a long time that I got from Henry Evers - see Gary Mulkey's link.
For a couple years now I have switched completely to etching stencils.
I've tried a couple different places and had interaction with numerous dealers.
The best in the business and most professional I have come across is IMG International Marking Group. Their stencils are second to none and Patricia is the bee's knees. She's as sharp as they come and knows exactly what she's doing.

I second what Karl said about IMG. Totally professional, fast, helpful, and reliable.

I will third what carl said, I also switched to stencils for the most part about a year ago. I also got mine from Patrica, nothing but good things to say about them!
I still use my stamp when I do a blade in classes or as a demo, I teach a lot and it is a good way for me to keep track of what was made in my shop and what was not. I made my stamp, and several earlier versions. depending on what you want they are not all that difficult to make. Mine is a shield with a stylized MP in the center. I used a graver and triangular file to form the letters in reverse on a piece of O1 drill rod then filed the outer shape, I heat treated it and made a holder for it, (the drill rod was 1/4" at this point the heat treat is probably meaning less as I use it hot and I am sure it is annealed by now.

The best pricing I've found for etching stencils at http://lectroetch.com/
You can photoshop your own 2.5x7 stamp at 600dpi, make sure it's ONLY black and white pixels, and tell them up front you want to waive the "art fee". Their art department is very good, but it's not worth the extra $30 if you now how to use photoshop or paint.net.
I've packed a lot of stencils into one sheet in a variety of sizes and I think it was like $30. I bought a generic 30V/5A power supply on ebay for next to nothing and it works excellent. You do not need to buy a $200 etching machine.
Thanks for the info on steel stamps. I'm going to ask around for quotes. I'd like one for my other blacksmithing projects.
Thank you all. I visited every site mentioned. I tried to give a thumbs up, got a notice that I had reached my daily allowance for positive feedbacks.
