I was hoping to get a recommendation on consistently good Stabilized wood. From hearing from other folks they seem to like to go see the material in person, but traveling for us is a little difficult. Is there a place you guys recommend for stabilized hardwood?

Our goal is something that has natural wood in it that both near mirror polishes without added material as well as wont shrink overtime.

Respectfully
Michael

A place I really like is ArizonaIronwood. Maybe a bit on the pricier side, but so far what I've seen in the pictures is exactly what I've gotten for all the wood species they have. It's what I'm using to work on my Journeyman set for next year, and have had no problems so far (knock on wood).

Knife & Gun Finishing supplies in Arizona is one of the pioneers in stabilizing wood and one of the best stabilizers out there. https://knifeandgun.com/

They also offer stabilizing services. You send them the wood, tell them what color(s) you want, and they send you the bill and ship them out. prices are based on finished weight. A lot of stabilized wood sellers are using K&G services to stabilize their woods.

When you buy stabilized wood, you should always check it to make sure the stabilization is complete. A fully stabilized wood block or set of scales will sink like a stone in a pail of water. If there is any bouyancy at all on the way down, the stabilization is not complete. This will end up showing when you either grind into the block or cut scales off of it.
