Hello all! i was just wondering how long did it take you to get your first bladesmith shop going? it seems like it is going slow getting all of the tools and everything for me. i was just wondering about everyone else and if you have them on hand and dont mind sharing post some pics of your shop, thanks everyone have a blessed day!
I think it's been 3+ years for me and my shop will never be finished . Honestly, I think my shop will continue to evolve as I learn more and my methods change. I started out draw filing my knives and saved up and got parts to end up with a KMG grinder towards the end of last year. I'd love some other tools to go along with what I have (mill, surface grinder, press, salt pot and more) but I can more than make due with what I have. Some of the really good makers I know who've been at it years still acquire new tooling to make the job faster or to accomplish something new. I think some guys jump in and make this their business, and therefore spend a fair amount of money to completely outfit their shop. I would guess that's more the exception than the rule. In the end, don't feel too bad-you're likely in good company and if you end up going slow, it always gives you some tool to look forward to buying .
