Hello, I am a new ABS member.

Currently I am working on an application for a residency program (art residency- a place to go and work on artwork- aka bladesmithing) in Rome, Italy. Can anyone link me with some bladesmiths or blacksmiths in Rome, or Italy in general?

any connections would help!

thank you

Meredith

Welcome to the American Bladesmith Society and the ABS Forum!

Sally and I will do some checking and see if we can find a lead for you in Italy.

Hi Meredith , This smith has displayed at our annual guild show and really impressed me with his work. His name is Simone Raimondi. Well worth checking him out.

Hi Meredith,

There are these two lovely books on Italian blacksmithing and knifemaking "Secrets of the Forge" and "Damascus" both published Rizzo Editure in Leopardi. I got my copies from Artisan Ideas Books and Jim there got in touch with one or two of the smiths when I visited northern Italy for business earlier in the year. You could try finding them for names or emailing Jim at artisanideas.com and see if he can help with names.

There is something called the "Associazione Cultural Coltellinai Forgiatori Bergamaschi" who's president did an intro for one. A Dr. La Salvia at the University of Chieti, Classical Studies is also listed. Hope that helps.

Kevin
