Niday Funeral Home

Johnny Edward Neely was born May 25, 1930 to John W. and Bessie Glass Neely in Rockdale, Texas, and went to be with his Savior August 22, 2011. Johnny grew up and graduated from school in Rockdale and married Nell A. Henry of Mosheim, Texas in 1950. The couple moved to Houston where they started their family and Johnny joined the Houston Police Department. Johnny's career with HPD spanned thirty-eight years and included several capacities including patrolman, auto theft, Commander of Houston's Mounted Patrol, and finally as Lieutenant of the Clear Lake Substation. He also worked an extra job for First City Bank at Gulfgate for 37 years and was a member of the US Naval Reserves for 21 years.

Johnny retired in 1992 to spend time with his loving wife gardening, traveling, volunteering at their church, and spoiling grandchildren. After retiring, Johnny worked with the 2nd precinct Constables, became a licensed Security Consultant, and spent his later years as a trial expert witness. He is survived by his son HPD Lt. Greg Neely and wife Elena DiIorio; daughter Debbie Palmatary; granddaughter Nell Ann Galindo and husband Justin (also with HPD); grandson Thomas Conor Neely; great-grandson Asher Galindo; two sisters; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Wednesday, August 24, and the service celebrating Johnny's life will be at 10:00am Thursday, August 25, all held at Niday Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 100 Club of Houston.
