Dear Friends,
I just love it when I see believers investing their time and talents in others. This is something I got to witness first hand a couple weeks ago when master bladesmith Burt Foster from Bristol Virginia, came down to pour into the lives of two of my apprentices, Jaime and Ramon.
The week started out with Burt taking Ramon and Jaime through the steps of making a beautiful knife that will stand up to years of use.
There is much that goes into making a knife, much more than shaping iron. The metallurgy involved is detailed and takes much concentration to get right. Burt did a wonderful job teaching Ramon and Jaime all of these steps. His patience and great teaching ability (and Spanish skills!) made the week a tremendous success for two apprentices. In the picture you’ll see Burt, Ramon and Jaime with the knives they each forged, getting ready to put handles on.
On two separate occasions Burt also taught classes in leatherwork. In the picture to the right you’ll see him teaching three of the women from Nueva Imagen how to cut, decorate and treat leather to make belts. The women loved the class and once again Burt showed his heart to pour into the lives of others. I can’t tell you how much of a blessing it was to have Burt here and to see our Nicaraguan friends glean from his many talents and his love. Burt is a true craftsman with a heart for Christ and His people. Thank you, Burt, for pouring into our lives!
One project in particular made the week special for me. Burt and I decided to collaborate on an art knife. I forged a dragon head and Burt forged and ground a “talon†shaped blade to accompany the dragon. It turned out beautifully and you can see a picture of Burt and me holding the knife. What fun!!
Thank you for being a part of all that is going on here in Nicaragua!
In Christ,
Mike, Lauren and Joseph Deibert
P.S. If you’d like to see more of Burt’s amazing work you can go to www.burtfoster.com.
Please pray for the man who guards our home, Jose. He recently had his motorcycle stolen. This was his transportation to work and his insurance does not cover the theft. We are awed by his faith in all of this, but know that the loss is great.

Thank you for reading our newsletter. We send this out to our supporters so it is written with much generality. I'll try to fill in some of the blanks with information the ABS crowd might find interesting or useful when I get a little more time. I'm sure Burt will share a few words with us about his week as well.
Mike
That is really cool. I was in Nicaragua about two years ago and it is nice to see someone helping out a couple of bladesmiths there.
That´s great Mike! <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
