G'day all. I have just succesfully completed my JS test with Mr Shaun Mc Intyre MS this past weekend. Nervous? You bet. 1 " rope no worries, 2 x 4 chop, well I can tel you, our pine is way harder than you folks have over there and I reckon I could not have selected a harder piece if I had tried. Took about 6 minutes to complete ( geuss I wont be winning any cutting comps anytime soon ) Shaved like new, and did the bend with flying colours.Hooray !!!!!!!!!!! All I have to do now is submit my 5 blades for judging and I'll do that in 2014.

Thanks Brion,

Yes it did feel good to know that all the work I had done thus far was what I wanted to achieve. And as you say mate the fun <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//blink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> part is yet to come. Shawn told me the bend was great, nice arc. That ment a lot. Shawn is on the mend, still very stiff, but thats to be expected. I have known Shawn for many years and he has a great attitude for life and as we say down here he is a good bloke. Many thanks to Shawn for his guidance and more than kind words about my work. Look forward to seeing you in 2014.

Cheers Keith

Classy touch including a piece of cut off rope in the photo. Can you explain the black lines marked on the blade and the light colored elongated triangle in between them coming down from the spine?

Well done...and thanks for sharing!

Hi Phil, Thanks mate, The black lines indicate the 3 " mark or in between them to be exact. That little triangular mark is a mark left from the aluminium jaws on the vice.

Cheers Keith
