I have done a lot of color case hardening in hardware and as Mike said is very labor intensive and hard to get color on small items but with a lot of persistence I have come to get some good color here is a frame right out of the quench.

I typed in "Hot Bluing" on YouTube and it was the first video that came up.

Also make sure to use the "...s'E'n" in Andersen. Not 'o'.

I also have a hot-bluing video on the ABS channel.

Is this the Youtube ABS channel? Because I cannot find your video there by searching the terms "hot bluing" or using your name. The only hit I get is your hydraulic press vid.

Kevin;

I like your colors. Just what I was hoping for but did not acheive.

Mine was dark blues with just a hint of bronze. Too subtle but would have looked good on a gun.

Some questions if you don't mind.

What steel?

Was there any warpage?

Any oxidation or scaling problems?

thanks

Mike

Mike, most of the time I use clean 1018 and I do not have a problem with warpage, your heat and soak time play a big factor in warpage if you are getting excessive scaling it could be a number of things, to hot to long or maybe cooling to fast. Your colors are your oxidation.
