I am saddened to tell you that I was contacted last night by Martha Gaddy with the news that her husband Phillip Gaddy had passed away suddenly in April of this year.

Phillip was an ABS Apprentice Smith from Statesville, North Carolina.

Very sorry to hear this Dan. May he rest in peace. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends. I will ring the anvil for him.

Phillip was the nicest gentleman, he attended all the hammer ins at Haywood and supported and promoted the ABS. He will be missed. I will send a sympathy card from the ABS.

I always looked forward to seeing friendly, soft-spoken Phillip at the Haywood hammer ins. I didn't know him well, but through mutual friends I know that he was a very knowledgeable and talented blacksmith who was eager to share that knowledge with others. Naturally that made him a good fit for the ABS; I wish he'd been granted more time.

I do know that an old friend is helping to find new homes for Phillip's equipment and such, so the family is in good hands.
