Hello,

I'm attempting to post a reply to a member in the "Tools..." section of the forum, and to reply to the member I need to post several pictures. I have re-sized them, etc., but apparently I reach my limit before I download all of them due to previous posted pics and the limit of 500K. Should I delete other older photos from previous posts to allow more available room? I am concerned that this may compromise previous posts by removing pictures...will this happen and does it matter? Or, should I make a slide-show on YouTube and post that? I am trying to show the steps in making a set of tongs.

Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know that you are working on this project. This would make a great addition to our techniques section on the ABS website as well as the ABS Forum. Let's talk tomorrow and I will help you with the best way to post your presentation. I have a host of software tools that I can use to help you.

if you have lots of pictures you can always make an album on imgur.com and link the album. its free and very light weight. it even has the option to embed if needed. its my go to for picture sharing.

EDIT: this is if you want to post high res and "over the limit" stuff mostly.

I just tried adding a picture to a post, and the system wouldn't allow it, stating: "Used 482.19K of your 500K global upload quota (Max. single file size: 17.81K)". I have optimized the photo per all instructions. Do I have to delete other photos I've put in previous posts, or something like that? Thanks for any help...

OK...

I noticed that my pictures were too big, so I tried reducing their size and they got so tiny and still weren't small enough. I re-read this thread, and I checked out Imgur.com (thanks, Zach) and it was so easy and it works great, so I'll just do that. Problem solved.

Remember to keep the images within posts in compliance with the size rules that are in effect to keep the image uploads at 800x800 pixels or less no matter whether you upload directly to the ABS Forum or use a service and embed the code.

Dan, I am seeing the same note Ed was seeing. It says "Used 450.53K of your 500K global upload quota (Max. single file size: 49.47K)" does that mean I have uploaded my maximum quota of files? Can I regain some space by deleting some file & photos? I have resized and compressed the photos before posting them, but I guess they are still so large they used up my allowable limit. I couldn't attach a .pdf file to a post the other day......

As a result of the discussions on our Topic of the Month, I made changes on the Admin side today to the Global Upload Limit for images from the default setting of 500k to Unlimited for all ABS Forum members.

Hi guys, I just notice this post and I understand it is several months old. I've seen several people have issues posting pics and Wips on our page. I'm just asking, this may have been discussed before. I see a lot of activity on facebook group sights from ABS members. Would it be possible to have an ABS facebook group page? Posting and commenting is very easy on facebook. Just asking!

The original issue in this thread about upload limits was addressed sometime ago as well as substantial increases to our image size limits which are currently reflected in the ABS Forum Guidelines. During the six years that the ABS Forum has been online, the Moderators and I have worked daily to serve our members by answering their questions on bladesmithing techniques and assisting them with a number of "user" issues on our Forum ranging from image posting to forgotten user names and passwords. We do our best as volunteers.

There have been several discussions about Facebook over the years and the issues associated with it. You could prepare a proposal and volunteer to be the administrator and send it to the ABS Board of Directors for their consideration. You would need ABS Board approval and have to follow and enforce all of the conduct rules already in effect on the ABS Forum.
