Wondering how others resized photos for the gallery. When I reduce size to below 50kb, my pis are much smaller than others in the gallery. When I reduce to 640x480, my pics are still around 1mb. Some others around 400kb.
Best wishes, Dan
Hi Dan,
Editing photos for posting is a two step process. You need to resize the image for pixel dimensions and then compress the image for a smaller file size. I have put together a tutorial on photo editing that you can view on this thread.
Editing Photos for the Internet
Let me know if you have any further questions!!
Dan:
I am glad to see you taking advantage of the features in the ABS Forum. I have some more tips for you to get more out of the ABS Forum.
I saw your knife photo posted yesterday and added your name to the title line so that internet search engines like Google would pick it up and index it. I have some more tips to help get your work noticed at: http://www.americanb...-search-engines
I see that Moderator Steve Culver has already replied to you above today on photo size. Steve’s tutorial is well written and has helped many of our ABS members with their photos.

I am still having problems posting photos to my gallery.
I have resized and compressed using the WebResizer site that Lin and Karl suggested. All my images are under the 800x800 pixel dimensions and under 135KB.
The gallery rejects everyone of them as being too large.
What am I doing wrong? They seem to post fine to the forum.
Here are the photos.

I have the ability as administrator to change the size limits for images on the Forum but not the Gallery. The maximum size for Gallery image uploads is 600x480 pixels or less and under 50k in file size. If you stay under the posted size limits for images to the Gallery you will be able to upload your photos.
In addition after uploading photos of your knives to your album in the "Member's Work Gallery" there are several additional steps to take if you will want to make your work and your name discoverable to the internet search engines. Google, Yahoo and the other internet search engines will index on the caption or title line of the photos in our ABS Gallery so it is important to have your name in the caption of your photos in the Member's Work Gallery. There is also an opportunity for you to write a detailed description of your knife and the materials used in the space below the caption. Another idea is for you to include a link to your website and/or email address after a quote such as: " For more information please contact..."
This is an example of a photo that I uploaded to the Gallery for the 2015 ABS International Master Smith Knife of the Year, click: http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/index.php?/gallery/image/1145-2015-international-master-smith-knife-of-the-year-kevin-harvey-ms/

Thanks Dan. I knew it was a user error issue, but I read Steve's tutorial again and I couldn't find any different limits for the gallery.
My bad. I also saw the stuff you had posted regarding adding notes, etc. All good info. I will try again later tonight.
