I was recently asked to make a video or two of the control system for my hydraulic press. This control system was designed by MS Tim Hancock and I think it was demonstrated at an ABS hammer-in type function a year or so ago. There was a small write up in the ABS Magazine.

The depth of press is set manually. You set the stop and there is a graduated adjustment that decreases (or increases depending on which way you turn it) the stoke by 1/8 inch per click. There is also a fine adjustment mechanism for minor depth changes. The up stroke is controlled either by time or distance (user controls). I have mine set for .5 seconds before it starts going back down. The controller is either a foot switch or a joy stick, either one works at any given time. For single time press operation to squish and hold, the depth controller is simply moved out of operation. The press will come down as long as you hold the switch and will stay there when you release. It will not rise until you reverse the switch. It may sound complicated, but it is very simple to use and understand.

I have a video of the controls and another one me doing some hot work with it.

Joshua

That is a very neat setup. I have built all of my equipment, coal and propane forges, power hammer and Pid controlled heat treat oven, and have plans

to someday build a press. I have got to remember this control setup.

Thanks for your time and demonstration.

That's really amazing. Thanks for doing this, Joshua.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. If you would like to see any other demonstrations of what can be done with the press, let me know and I'll try and make a video of it.

I'd love to see more, Joshua, but I haven't got a clue as to what. In a lot of ways, it's more up to you and what you would enjoy doing and want to make the time for.

I have added another hydraulic press video. This one is making a Damascus billet.

Basic operations of welding, drawing out, gauging thickness, squaring, and making a fold.

Hope you enjoy.

Our Internet has been out for days or I would have gotten to this right away.

I did enjoy that video, Josh. Thank you very much for doing it.
