Im working on a father son CuMain "Tanto" set. Dad is doing a real cool grad present with matching knives.
Now. I THOUGHT the bevels on a tanto would be easy (I think I made a shirt like this) how hard could it be? two straight bevels that meet. Then to try and match it on a 2nd knife while keeping the 1084 in the middle of the CuMai.
Anyhow, my current deity has probably disowned me for all of the cursing but I think I have finally come close.
For those of you that regularly do Tantos... Respect (and any tips?)

Michael Samdahl

The blade is copper CuMai.  like this blade

its a sandwich of a core 1084 piece .4mm of copper on each side and then a damascus outer layer.

Ive started writing up the process, I have part 1, the damascus on my website on the articles page, I should have part 2 written up this week.  https://www.solarstorm.ca/articles

sorry missed the last question.

I always order 4' pieces of steel (biggest he sells without asking)

thickness depends on what I am doing.  1/16" => ¼"

Width again depends on what I am doing. mostly 2" though some 1 ½

I find when making damascus, it tends to look better if the 1084 (the dark part) is the thicker pieces.
