Hi guys, i was just looking at ordering some belts and I have a question about a finishing belt for my blades. I know that all of my blades will be a satin finish. I like using a method similar to ED Caffrey's where I go from a 50 grit belt straight to a 400 for finishing. Thank you for this tip by the way Mr. Caffrey!! I've used 400 grit belts before but don't get much life out of them. I have seen a belt on USA KnifeMakers Supply called a Non-Woven Bear-Tex 2x72 Medium Norton Belt, and was wondering if anyone has used this and if it was a good option. It says that it wears very slowly and has long life, while also leaving a satin finish. It doesn't really specify grit and I was gonna call them coming this Monday about this option and ask more questions. I was also looking at a 400 grit cork belt and was wondering what anyone's opinion on that was as well. I saw the video with Mike Williams suggesting this belt option and also read about it in the other post located below. The reason I'm asking is because I like the idea of a belt that gives long wear for many years, and if the Non-Woven Bear-Tex 2x72 Medium Norton Belt cuts good for a long time without using compound it may save a little money possibly, but either route i would like to try if it works well. Thank you for reading this post and have a great day guys!
