Hello,

Ive seen some topics around the web on respirators for grinding blades and various handle materials and wanted to see what folks here could weigh in on for me and other apprentice smiths. Im a younger fellow (28) and have been using respirators for the last several years when grinding my items like G10, Micarta or Aluminum as well as various exotic woods but find that some of the gunk still gets past once in a while and wanted to get a thought on how to prevent this with a better respirator and filter. Ive heard good things of the GM 7500 series but am finding little on what filter to get for it to make it suitable for all scenarios in grinding. Typically I grind outside and very little gets to me but with moving shop indoors I wanted to make sure I was being safe.

My main question is what respirator is best and what filters are best? Do we need to buy different filters for materials like g10 and wood or does one exist that covers all bases?

I use a North 7700 for G10 and micarta. I use the combo filter that's rated 100+vapor protection. When grinding steel, welding, or wearing a full face shield I use a RZ Mask. I also use the RZ when working in my woodshop.

They have a promo using the code April that will add 3 free filters for it. I used the code last month and it worked, a friend just used it last week and they even included free shipping.
