Master Smith Lin Rhea posted some ideas for the ABS Atlanta Banquet so I created a new Topic for this discussion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I hear from the ABS, I think it is trying to get moving in the right direction. Modernized book keeping, accurate records, new board members, etc. All potentially great things. That is encouraging.

My suggestion is about the ABS banquet.

I suggest that there be assigned an emcee to be responsible for the flow and expediency of the proceedings as well as to condense some of the actual program into something more managable. If this was done, I believe more would stay for the auction. I was up at 4:00am and as young as I am can only take so much even with good intentions.

This is not to show any disrespect for the way it is, but it could be better.

You made some good points. Proposed changes to improve the Annual Banquet and Meeting were discussed at the Board meeting and that discussion continues. I talked to Jim Batson yesterday and he read your post and wants to shorten the length of the presentations by using the ABS Website and our American Bladesmith Journal to make the reports to our members and shorten the program. Jim is also considering other changes to shorten and improve the Annual Banquet.

We discussed the "Annual Banquet and Meeting" at the recent Board Meeting in San Antonio. The comments during the discussion included that the traditional "Annual Banquet and Meeting" at the Atlanta Blade Show was too expensive and the program was too long. There was not a format vote on a motion but everyone agreed that we need a different approach for the 2013 Atlanta Blade Show. It was my understanding that we will be looking into arrangements for a short Awards Ceremony to honor the new Master Smiths, Journeyman Smiths, and other award recipients on Friday evening immediately after the show closes for the day.

After the arrangements for the 2013 Atlanta Blade Show are made, I will of course post the details for everyone on all of the internet and email resources that I manage for the ABS.

There will be an ABS Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 31, 2013 immediately after the Blade Show closes for the day from 7 to 8pm in Room# 103 of the Galleria (same room as JS Judging and the ABS Knife Auction). The Blade Show is providing this room to us at no charge and it will be in place of the banquet which has become very expensive for our members. We encourage everyone to attend to honor the new Master Smiths, Journeyman Smiths, and other award recipients. There is no charge for this event.
