This is 80crv2 steel and the blade is 4-1/2 inches.

Well done Lin!

Did you notice how the grain in the wood runs right up to the cutting edge in the photo with the edge up. Wow!

What do you do for your heat cycling/heat treat/tempering for that steel?

This blade is machine finished to the Trizac belt 45.

Rick, it's not hot blued. That is just a reflection.

Steve, I thermo cycle and quench in oil, then draw it back till a file will barely cut it and start playing with the geometry and test, test, test. With this construction, I can stick it in the oven again any time if I think its too hard. Cant hurt it.
