I follow a few carvers on social media and love their works. Most of them work in wood or antler with a few that carve bone. I am unable to do any real shop work until about November as I am moving and the shop is currenly packed up. So I decided to work on my carving skills.
About two years ago I started and completed this Dirk, but have done little to keep those skills honed. So I decided to grab some carving chisels and practise.
First I did some Celtic knotwork. Thw wood is rock maple.
“So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. I've been there before.”
Second try was also some maple and I did a face.

Some good work there! Certainly lots better than I can do. Excited to see more.
Any particular learning resources you have for this kind of carving?
Very cool. Good job.
Thanks Bobby and John.
As for learning resources, it's mostly talking to other wood carvers, a couple of YT videos, and two books I recently purchased by Lora S. Irish: Cane Topper Wood Carving (where I learned to do the head) and Relief Carving Wood Spirits (yet to be tried).
I follow a couple of knife makers online who are excellent carvers, Jake Cleland and Petr Floriniak. Both of them are in Europe and I originally found them on the Bladesmiths Forum. Jake still posts there occasionally, but Petr hasn't been on the forum in years. Jake carves mostly wood and Petr carves mostly antler. They have very different styles and methods. I will try some antler soon. (after I knock the rust off of my skillset!)

I,m starting another full wrap weave, similar to that dirk carving.
Here is the layout drawn in pencil on Basswood.

Thats amazing! How do we find those guys on line, are they on a particular platform? Like Instagram, FB, Youtube, etc?

Man that would look so dang good on a knife handle. I can't wait to see what you put that weave on.

@michael Samdahl thanks. It comes out looking like the dirk I posted a link to in the first post on this thread.
