I'm Jim Stevens. I am an instructor with the NRA Gunsmithing School and a Kennedy Center Registered VSA Artist. My works are collected internationally. I have written three books published by Schiffer Publishing on the art of scrimshaw that have been well received by the knifemaking and artisan community. The books are "Scrimshaw Techniques," "Advanced Scrimshaw Techniques," and "Powder Horns: Fabrication & Decoration."

Owners of my books as well as fellow ABS Members may contact me at any time with questions or project concerns they may have about scrimshaw. I am always glad to help fellow artisans. I will be glad to offer my suggestions or answer any questions you may have to help with your projects or concerns. This is not a sales pitch for my books. I am honestly offering my assistance if it will help you with your knifemaking work and other projects. I believe in giving back and this is one way.

You can email me at: [email protected]

My web site is at: http://www.scrimshawstudio.com

Thanks for the offer Jim! I presume a person needs to be capable of drawing on a plain old flat piece of paper successfully in order to make a go at scrimshaw?!
