Hey All,

Well, once again I was attempting something I'd never done, and once again, I am learning Please take a look at the pictures and you'll see what I mean. I was attempting to filework the spine of this knife with a Dremmel tool, and the tool slipped out of the notch and made a mess (notice it's the "tools" fault!) OK, I did it I have thought through many different possibilities on how to turn this into a "design opportunity", but I'm stumped (or don't like the choices). Any help or suggestions you all can give me would be great! keep in mind this is a "mystery steel" knife (car spring) that I'm just practicing with, but of course I want every knife to look good, so...

Ed,

Your image is too small for me to see what you are dealing with.

90 percent of knifemaking, is figuring out how to fix the things that didn't go as you planned. Like you said; a "design opportunity".

Yes Ed, those things will jump on you. Usually when you least expect it. All part of the fun of knifemaking. Like Steve said, a big percentage of our time is finding ways to fix issues. Of course my percentage is lower than Steve's, LOL, wishful thinking. One thing you could do is reshape the spine. I am thinking like a Japanese sword. The spine or mune has different shapes. I am thinking of the one called iori mune, shaped like a house roof. Just do a google search for iori mune and you can see what you think. Of course it would do away with all your previous work, part of the fun.

Let us know what you decide.

Sorry about the image size Steve...how about these?

Great idea Brion! Especially 'cause I'm going to wrap the handle with a Katana style wrap.I may go with that one, but I sure would like any other suggestions anyone has while I mull it over.

Thanks guys!

Ed C.
