I recently got a comment from another maker telling me I punch my logo upside down.
Now, I decided on my orientation by copying Kevin Harvey's, but I have gone and checked, I see most makers' marks are read from the handle side.
Is there any standard out there, or is it a preference thing?
Thanks
Dylan
I do it like you do.
Do it however you want - it's your knife.

When I was a younger man I used to worry about which way I marked them for all kinds of silly reasons, looking back on it. Today I have settled on marking them so the holder can lift them up and easily read who made the knife they are holding. But, I guess the argument could be made that it could be done the other way so the user could show off the credentials of his knife. But then, what if you oriented the mark so that it was 90° to the ricasso length, so the the edge was facing you as you read it? I don't think there are any rules regarding it.

Looking at photographs of my knives, I think it may be worth changing mine around, since my photographs all have the logo upside down.
Or I need to change my photography.
What Karl said.
The buyer is always first looking at your wares in a photo or on a table. I mark my knife so that the first time a potential buyer sees it, the mark is right side up so they don't subconsciously think anything is amiss with that image. I orient the knives in that image so they look most appealing to me.
Now go look at a bookshelf to understand what people typically see.
