Well I entered my first competition and came in as the runner up. the theme was supposed to be "The final frontier"
Definitely a learning experience. I should have paid a bit more attention to the judges. They are all Chef knife makers and I entered a bowie. I think I would have done better to enter a chefs knife too.
Still quite proud of the accomplishment for my first competition.
The winner:
My 1st Runner up entrie

I think it really depends. We do have a chef as a personal friend and he will easily spend 2k on a knife. he doesnt like damascus because it just for show, likes stainless. Has to fit his hand. cant be wood because if he travels, some countries like the UK dont allow wood handles in the kitchen because of bacteria potential (UK laws)
That being said, things like S grinds, and I really forget what he called it, but it was a type of "fuller" that caused slices to fall off the blade. These can really complicate the build.
The other thing he is anal about is the weight. he says most makers make their knives way too heavy for him to use all day.
