I was just watching a clip on the ABS you tube channel of MS Mike Williams grinding, in that clip he was pretty clear in his thoughts that a cork charged with rouge was better pretty much in every way to higher grit sanding belts. Does anyone know what rouge he was charging it with ? When I worked as a goldsmith we stuck to basically either white Diamond or white rouge and red for final polish on gold & silver. Could he be using something along the green Zam label rouge ?

I don't know for sure but probably green rouge. I have heard from 1 or 2 different stock removal makers they use Green "matchless" rouge on the cork belts

think what got my attention and made sense was how old that belt was vs a sanding belt being just done...........green or white diamond rouge would make sense though.

not trying to be contrary but a cork belt is not grit rated, it is just material to carry the rouge medium that actually does the cutting.

wow wild but hey wrong is wrong. More old school here so to me that cork wheel is like a buffer wheel. The clip and the link was very helpful to me and honestly a bit of a face palm moment. So I ordered 3 plain cork belts for the different rouges and the 2 rouges I was lacking. Now I can divert the belt expenses to more of the lower grit belts. I have some of those black carbide belts here and not a fan of them, I suspect they function great with say a rotary platen. Anyhow thx for the replies fella's very helpful 🙂
