I called ABS today and spoke with Cindy about the possibility of a summer ABS Intro course and decided to start a thread on the forum to gauge interest by members to attend the class. Weather (summer heat) is an issue (I didn't think of this, but two people I've talked with have mentioned it), so the New England School in Auburn, Maine would probably be the best option in July.

Please participate in the poll if you have an interest in taking the Intro to Bladesmithing class in July. I didn't put a "not interested" option because I'm just trying to gauge interest levels not rates.

Thanks!

I like your idea, Steve. I'd REALLY like a class somewhere out west here. There are some hammer-ins, including a good one I've heard about in CA, but I'd Love to have the chance for a full class out this way, though and summers would be a bit easier for me.

How many times can I vote? Stir it up, make it happen...and I'll be there. I've been asking this question for a few years now. I'm not sure if there's not enough interests from the student side, the teacher side or the venue side. Good luck...and THANKS!

Phil,

I saw your other post and was just hoping to quantify the demand a little.

True, out West would be nice, but truth be told I'm traveling a great distance no matter where it is. The timing is the big issue for me--I am just wondering if it is an issue for other folks too. It could be that you, Phil, and I are the only three who have this issue.

OK...only two votes (including mine) after a month. I believe I now understand why there is not an ABS Intro class in the summer.

Hello Steve and Phil. I will say that there used to be a summer Intro class at Old Washington. Usually right after the Blade Show. The main problem was that with temps in the mid 90's to 100's, then the forges going, there were health concerns for instructors and students. I would think North Carolina would be the same way. As for the New England School of Metalwork. I cannot say. Maybe you should contact the individual schools.
