Haywood Offering Evening Introduction to Bladesmithing Course

Haywood Community College’s Continuing Education Department will hold an evening Introduction to Bladesmithing Course through the American Bladesmith Society, Inc. June 18 through July 19. Classes will be held from 6 until 10 p.m.The American Bladesmith Society, Inc. is a non-profit educational entity striving to preserve the art of the forged blade, tools, and other implements. The goal of the course is to provide the beginning student with the knowledge and skills necessary to forge, grind, heat treat, and finish a carbon steel blade of excellent quality during the course. Students should acquire the knowledge to finish the blade to the degree that it is ready to apply guard and handle material.

Instructor for the course will be Bill Wiggins, Journeyman Smith. The Haywood County resident is treasurer of the American Bladesmith Society and is respected by professional bladesmiths all over the United States.
