KGA Spring Shop Tour
May 4, 2013
The spring shop tour will be held at the home of Ray Kirk just south of Tahlequah, OK. His physical address is 25494 So. 530 Road, Park Hill, OK. 74451 This is located one mile east of Hwy 82 on Horse Shoe Bend Road and 4/10ths of a mile south. There will be a knife show sign at the corner of Horse shoe bend road and So. 530 road.
Hours are from 10:00 AM to around 4:00 PM.
Horse Shoe Bend Road is located about a 1/4 mile south of Jimmy Houstons outdoors store and Marina. There is a Phillips 66 Super station on the south side of the road when you turn. If any one has any problems, you can call me at 918-207-8076.
Our agenda this year will be demonstrations by Tom McGinnis, Doug Sonntag, and Bill Lyons. We will also have a knife show at the end of the shop tour and will run a small add in the local paper to see about getting more people out to enjoy our favorite passion.
Tom McGinnis will be bringing down a Burr King grinder and will have it available for sale after the shop tour. Tom has been very good to the knife makers in the surrounding state knife clubs with discounts to all the members when we have a special event.
Tom will start off the demos by forging a tomahawk. Hopefully he will be able to get enough of it done in two hours so that you will be able to duplicate his success.
During this time there will be tickets sold for the iron in the hat. This is a method of raising money for our club to help out with the shop tours and other expenses. Please donate something if you are able. ALL the ticket holders will be eligible for the grand prize, an integral knife and sheath. If you buy a ticket, you may win. All tickets will be placed into a large bowl and then the winning ticket will be drawn. If you have won something already, your ticket will still go into the pot for the grand prize drawing. The drawing will be held around 1:00 PM
After lunch, a fish fry, and the drawings, we will again be doing demonstrations.
Doug Sonntag will be doing a grinding demo on the Burr King grinder and showing how to utilize the different attachments to achieve the different grinds you may do.
Bill Lyons will be doing a forging demonstration of forging a Scagel style knife. Bill has had an extensive background in the Scagel style knives by some of the old Masters that knew him.
At around 3:00 PM, we hope to have enough people here to do a small knife show. We will also have lots of tail gate sales so if you have something, material or knives, please bring them.
I will try to send this again next week to help refresh your memory, especially if it is like mine.
