I've already had two individuals voice an interest in doing the performance test for JS while at The Branson Hammer-In this fall, Matthew Orr & Paul Brown. I informed both that before it could be done that they would have to co-ordinate it ahead of time with one of the MS smiths who will be in attendance. I hope that I told them correctly.

<img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> It looks like we'll be doing plenty of wood chopping and blade bending there this year. For those of you who plan on doing a performance test in the future this would be an excellent way to learn a lot about what will be expected of your knife.

"GOOD LUCK" to all involved.

They need to make sure to bring their own supplies of 2x4s and 1 inch rope. It is NOT supplied.

I let them know that but I'm sure whichever MS they contact will go over exactly what they need.

I am also thinking about trying to do my performance at that hammer-in. I have plenty of rope for sure. However I am curious if I need to use a white pine 2x4 or what is the standard. Currently I am using Douglas fur for practice and testing. Who all is planning on attending this hammer-in?

Those who dare will succeed or fail, but atleast they dared for greatness.

Brion Tomberlin has graciously volunteered to give a seminar on JS testing standards. Anyone who is interested in testing in the future can learn a lot this year between Brion's seminar & all of the testing that will happen.

If you are serious about testing you should get with one of the Master Smiths who will be attending to co-ordinate everything that you need to do before hand. I know that Brion Tomberlin, Jim Crowell, Ray Kirk and Ron Newton will all be there and possibly others.

In addition to notifying one or more of the Master Smiths in advance of the hammer-in as Gary advises, print and take a copy of the JS Performance Test Certification form. This is the link, click: http://www.americanbladesmith.com/uploads/file/Testing/JS%20Performance%20Test_certification_form.pdf

All the best!
