I am in the process of finishing up one of my JS presentation knives and planned on a frame handle. I am making a multiple piece frame similar to how John White would build some of his.

Example:

Mine would be similar but with less/simpler file work.

Would this be acceptable, if finished to JS standards. I have seen other JS knives with frame handles, but with the more typical one piece construction.

Thank you,

James

Yes James that would be fine, but remember, the filework will be judged also if you add filework. The reason being, that if you have a nice knife but the filework is sloppy, that would greatly detract from the knife. I am sure if you feel comfortable doing it, John would have said go for it.

I say go for it if you can make it work; frame handles are nice.

Just remember; your fit up, alignment, and finish will be the criteria on which you are judged.

as Brion stated; your file work on the knife will be held to the same standards.

always a journey
