Is there a requirement that JS knives have a dropped edge below the ricasso? I am in the process of planning my JS testing knives and have a small bird and trout design that would be better with out the drop. FWIW, I plan for three of the other four to be standard rectangular ricasso/dropped edge/guard style, with the fourth being a bolstered knife.
Jason, it sounds like you have a very nice variety for your test knives.
As long as the blades are forged, it doesn't really matter. Considering that you are offering three other knives with the dropped choil, I would say the judges will enjoy seeing a bird and trout, as long as it meets the other criteria. Your point about it working better with the edge in alignment with the ricasso will be understood.
As a reminder, they ALL (even the bird and trout) have to have either a bolster or a guard.
Your work that I have seen and handled has been very nice so I look forward to congratulating you soon.
Thanks, Lin. I plan to performance test before the first of the year, and have the knives examined at ICCE 2017. Fail to plan = plan to fail. Just thinking ahead.
