Hey guys,

I'd like to know who is testing this year. How are your knives coming? Have you found the preparation as difficult as you thought? What are you struggling with? Are you going to present your five knives at the Blade Show or the ABS Expo for judging?

I won't be at the Blade show but I look forward to seeing those of you testing in San Antonio.

Good luck applicants!

Hi Josh,

I had plans to test in Atlanta this year but I got too many orders for other knives and it got in the way of my presentation knives. Definitely a bitter sweet problem. I guess it'll be San Antonio for me, which I feel will be a neat opportunity to participate in a historical first. I just want to make sure that I succeed in my "participation in history", if you know what I mean. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I plan to test for JS in Atlanta. I'm just over halfway with two finished and two other's close. The preparation has certainly pushed me to be a better maker and given me a more critical eye which seems at least half the battle. The struggle is knowing what's good enough since you want those five to be an example of your best work which seems to be changing weekly. I find it freeing not be making blades for a customer, it's license to be a bit more creative and extravagant with time and materials. I'm excited, it's great fun. I'm glad to see this thread up as we're all curious who'll be sweating it out together outside the judges chamber.

All the best,

-Haley

I look forward to seeing you all at Atlanta or San Antonio. Isn't it amazing how much time you spend on one knife when you are presenting them. One question Haley, Is Adam going for his MS rating this year? That would be neat to have a husband and wife MS and JS get the stamps the same year. Good luck to you both.

Haley DesRosiers was in contact with me last night and Adam is having his presentation knives juried by the Master Smith Judging Panel while Haley is having her knives juried by the Journeyman Smith Judging Panel in Atlanta at the Blade Show. I now have both of the DesRosiers on the list for Atlanta 2011.

It will be a husband and wife event for the DesRosiers as well as their American Bladesmith Society family. We wish them both the best!

Thanks for the support guys...yes Adam and I will be stressing together come the fateful day in June. As it is, between the two of us, we are eating, sleeping and breathing knives. Noone wants to come visit us because all we talk about are ricasso length, guard fit, handle material, Zircon belts verses Trizac...you get the point <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//rolleyes.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> It's great to be doing it together.
