I had a youngster walk into my store today. His name is Jonathan Stanley and he is a young bladesmith/knifemaker. He has three knives he had made and showed me them. He has homemade business cards made from notebook paper that he had laminated. He even has a small display at a local convience store to sell his knives. He described his forge and it sounded like a workable homemade forge. He described how he had shot the deer and cut down the tree that had provided the wood and antler he used for material to make the handle for one of his knives. I was so impressed with his determination and work. I had a full antler that I had planned on using, but gave it to Jonathan. I told him about the ABS and am supposed to meet his parents tomorrow. I would like to sponsor him for the Youth Hammer-In in June. I think he is somewhere around 10-12 yrs old. As a youth, what options are open to him in the ABS?

Cheyenne

I appreciate you bringing this very inspiring story about a young and aspiring Bladesmith to our attention. He can join the ABS as a youth member and if we are able to obtain permission from his parents for him to join I would he willing to pay his Youth Membership dues for 2012.

In addition he can attend the ABS Youth Hammer-In in June and I understand from your post that you plan to sponsor him at that event. After you check with his parents you should contact Cindy at the ABS office to make arrangements.
