Well it is another year and I am starting to get requests for talks and demos at hammer-ins and other events. But after so many years I am just out of fresh ideas that people would like to hear or see. So I thought I would bounce the idea off any body who would like to give me input on what they would like to see if coming to a hammer-in. What topics do you folks think would be good ones that I could present this year?

well one I have been mulling of late that would make for a good talk is what makes a good knife, that is what part is most important, heat treat, appropriate geometry, material choice, ergonomics, all of the above , none of the above..
Another topic I would want to watch is, How the study of historical work can inform our current work, what we can learn from it.

Hmmm, that has possibilities. We are often advised to look to historical work for inspiration, but we seldom make a study of what it is that we are looking for and all there is to glean from that. With direct recreation it is obvious, but for more general inspiration, all the possibilities are not as obvious and there could be something to learn in examining that.

Yes that's it exactly! I know studying originals informs my work in so many ways, I would be interested in seeing what others take away, it is sure to be different than what I take.

Over the years I've learned that it's not about what I've done as a demonstrator, it's about the group I'm presenting to. Often times what I think is "old and stale", is "new and exciting" to a particular group. I generally ask the host what they think the group might like to learn, and base my demonstration(s) on that.

That's an idea. I don't know about just sheaths, I can butcher some leather work as good as the next guy, but I do have a couple of methods for scabbard making I have came up with, that has given me some nice fits.
