2010 Raffle Knife

I am honored to have been voted by attendees of the 2008 Expo in Reno to make the raffle knife for the 2010 Expo in San Antonio. I chose a large Persian styled folder with double bolsters to highlight Damascus steel that I forged while doing a Damascus steel demo at the spring 2009 Guadalupe Hammer In. The Damascus has a very fine ladder patterned explosion pattern. The handle scales are ancient walrus ivory. The blade and bolsters have been colored gold using nitre blue salts and the bolsters have 24k gold inlayed borders. The liners are 15n20 and feature stippling and nitre blue coloring. The back bar is engraved inside and out and my signature is engraved on the inside also. The thumb stud has a sapphire set in 18k gold and is fileworked and heat colored as are all of the screws used in the construction. I performed all of the work on this knife.

Raffle ticket prices: 1 for $10, 6 for $50, and 12 for $100.

If you would like to purchase tickets please send an email to [email protected] telling how many you would like to order. ABS Expo will then send you a PayPal bill for that amount.

Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase in San Antonio at the ABS Expo.

I am really looking foward to this!! Now, if I could just get a couple knives ready.... Of course, when you don't have knives on your table, it is easier to loaf around the show and visit!! <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Dang Bill, two knives? I guess I will have to really get cracking. You are setting those standards awfully high. Seriously this will be my firat expo and we are really looking forward to it. I may have three or four on the table. I was planning on a special damascus piece, BUT, it really stinks when you get done with the rough grinding and notice a nasty black line right near the edge back by the ricasso. More nicely patterned scrap. Isn't bladesmithing fun? <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//blink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I now have a nice carbon Bowie finished, a damascus hunter ready to etch and a laminated blade thru heat treat. If I was to finish all 3, it would be a record for me!! Its awfully hot in my shop these days. And I certainly don't want to put any pressure on Mike!! Have to be careful with guys his age. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Brion, you will like San Antonio. If you want to see the whole city, John Perry can show it all too you in about 3 minutes. Wear your seatbelt.

Steve, if our tables are in the same place, please keep an eye on the microphone for me. I would hate to make a fool of myself!! <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//rolleyes.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I am looking foward to seeing everyone.

Bill, knowing John Perry, I think I will pass <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//laugh.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. I am actually planning on having five knives, if everything goes as planned and I don't melt in the shop. I like San Antonio and am looking forward to the show. Mike and his cool weather, yeah right.
