It is going to be tough to choose between Steve's handle class and Carl's first half of the takedown class. Most of the others I will be trying to learn what I need the most. Lyn's grinding I think I will have to be in on that. And metallurgy will be a must also. Decisions decisions decisions.

Well, I did it.

I agreed to do a seminar on take-down knife construction.<img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//ohmy.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

What was I thinkin'??!!

In fact, I think it could be a lot of fun.

Some parts of it will be very, very boring, and other parts will be very interesting!!

I hope all skill levels will attend.

I also encourage verbal participation/questions/comments/etc. We've got two slots to fill so the more we can cover - the better.

I hope to cover basic hunter style assembly - 3-4 different ways, Bowie style with spacers and butt caps, and even some time spent on frame handles.

It will be my first time doing this and I still have no idea how I'm going to do it. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//blink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Karl I've never known you to be at a loss for words and you have always had crystal clear explanations for any question I have had so I'm pretty sure you will give an outstanding seminar

Steve, the meal looks awesome, buddy!

I can smell the BBQ sauce from here.

Going to drive it one day, so I hope we're there on time.

Dave Sloan will be bringing an inventory of Little Giant hammer parts to the Symposium. If there is anything specific that you would like Dave to bring, you might want to email him to let him know.

Anyone going to the Symposium interested in some fresh cut mesquite wood for handle material. I thought I might bring some with me. Send me an E-Mail if you are interested so I will know how much to bring.

Steve those are cool -- a little much horsepower for what we will be doing though <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />.

I will be going over how I use an old cast iron sewing machine to sew inlays. There is little modification needed to use one of these and it makes for a nice professional appearance.

That being said, is there anything else that anyone would like to see in the way of sheaths or Silver wire inlay. I look at it as I am working for those in attendance and will cater my demo to what anyone wants to see. Please let me know.

So far, the inlay sewing is the only request I have, so it will get covered <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />. I am glad that this was requested as it is really a neat method that makes life so much easier.

See everyone next week

Brian

It will be free for the asking... you will probably have to send it to a stabilizing place but it is a good dark wood.

Great set of demonstrators. The big problem this year (well, like last year) was deciding which one to attend. Was well worth the drive from Dallas.

Thanks Kevin!! Glad you enjoyed it!

I think the Heartland Symposium went very well. I want to thank all of the demonstrators for the excellent quality of their demonstrations. All were very well presented.

We believe that we had 55 paid attendees. I will double check that count tomorrow, when I finalize the paperwork.

There were a LOT of photos and video taken during the Symposium. I will post some up, when I get my hands on them.

I believe that the event was the best yet. A big thank you to all the demonstrators, especially to Dan Peterson for admitting all present to the 5000 degree club.
