Thanks Steve and all the presenters/demonstrators!!! I thought it was a great show, though being a newcomer I felt like my head was going to explode and my fingertips were wearing off taking notes on my iPod! So much to learn!
Congrats on the new granddaughter!

Congratulations, Steve! Both for the healthy granddaughter & for hosting such a successful weekend. A big thank you to the ABS & all involved for another very well done hammer-in. It was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

We're back home from Tulsa now and I'm playing catch-up. Still got to wrap up the paperwork from the Symposium and get the shop re-assembled. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Thanks for the congratulations on the Granddaughter!!!
Again, I want to thank everyone who attended the Symposium! I hope that you all had a great time and were able to learn a lot.
From the feedback that I have received, it appears that the Symposium was very successful. Everyone agreed that the Washburn Tech. Campus was a great site for the event. I'll be working with Washburn to schedule next year's Heartland Symposium at the WIT campus. I'll post up the date as soon as I get it confirmed.
The auction went very well and brought in needed moneys to pay for putting on the event. Thanks to all who made purchases and most especially those who donated items for the auction.
We had eight cutters competing in the Cutting Demonstration. The winner of the contest and the coveted Teddy Bear Award, was Dwight Schoneweis. David Sloan took second place. Myself and Dan Petersen tied for third place.
There were a lot of photos and video taken at the Symposium. I expect that we can get some of these posted soon.
Thanks again to all!!!!
Thanks you guys for putting this on. I have wearing my fingertips off trying to practice all the things I learned at the symposium. It was really a great event.

I really enjoyed this year's Hammer-In and I wanted everyone to know that next year's Heartland is set for October 6 and 7th. Please mark your calendar for another great event. I will post details of the demonstrations in a few months. If there is a demonstration that you want to see please contact the ABS Heartland Coordinator, Steve Culver.

Hey Jim,
Glad that you enjoyed the Symposium!!
I'm already working on next year's Symposium. As Dan posted, the next event is scheduled for October 6th and 7th, 2012. Set-up and Demonstrator's Dinner will be Friday, Oct. 5th.
Let me know what demonstrations you would like to see. I want to have some demos on different subjects than we've had the last two years. I plan to have the list of demonstrations and demonstrators decided within the next few months. When all is decided, I will start a new thread for the 2012 Symposium.
Thanks again to all who attended the 2011 Heartland Symposium!!
I am looking forward to the 2012 Heartland Bladesmithing Symposium and noticed the very well equipped machine shop at Washburn Technical Institute. I would like to see some demonstrations at the 2012 Heartland on the operation and use of milling machines and metal lathes in the fabrication of parts for forged blades such as guards, ferrels, and pommels.
