Thanks fro the info here! As it turns out I ended up with a nice little pop up camper. Is there a certain section at the mentioned campground for people going to this event?

Hey Michael, I stayed at the Range Pond campground the last two years, and was not aware of anyone else who was attending the hammer-in staying there, and there is not a special area for event attendees. However, you should make sure you have reservations because they are at the very height of tourist season right now.

As for open forge and grinder time, there will be both, and experienced smiths to help your technique. It couldn't hurt to bring your own steel, but often Aldo (of New Jersey Steel Baron) is also there to sell you some if you don't have your own.

See you there!

Hey Jordan, thanks for that info. All good stuff. I reserved my spot at Range Pond last week, and got literally the last site for that weekend. I would be psyched if Aldo (or even some other steel merchant) were there. I'd buy a bunch of steel to save on the shipping. That said, I will bring some of my own steel just in case. see you there.

Getting ready to head to the airport to make my trip. Can't wait to see everyone. Matt, I talked to you at blade about some hardness chisels, are you going to have any with you? This will be my first hammer in, I can't wait to annoy everyone with questions! <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//wink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Any word on when the 10th annual NE Hammer in will be? Last year's event was a blast, but I wish I'd spent more time in the open forge. I'd be really excited if there was an open grinding portion this year as well, but if not I will stay in the forge until they pry my cold, dead, hand from my hammer.
